Utterly Dreadful

Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real fiasco. We tried to {compensate|handle the situation, but it was like trying to stop a blizzard with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the sting of this disaster.

The tsunami struck without warning, ravaging entire cities in its path. Buildings shattered like house of cards, and the roar that followed was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath debris, their fate unknown. The scale of the disaster was unprecedented, forcing survivors to confront a future forever scarred.

Worst Day Ever

It all started with the case of bedhead hair. I couldn't figure it to look decent. As I was running out the door, I trippedover and with a thud all over the carpet. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for a very important appointment.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
